"Increased utilization of mass transit could be accomplished by allowing people to ride METRO buses at no charge....they are empty the majority of the time. We do not need a rail system -- it is a costly duplication of infrastructure that is not used. Nor do trees, neighborhoods and businesses need to be destroyed to get people into the Galleria area to shop." |

"I question the central premise for Metro's rail on Richmond proposal. Because of their equivocation, I do not believe their research figures on ridership or any of their statements regarding the collateral damage their rail, which is really not a mass transit solution at all, will cause." |

I am adamantly opposed to Rail on Richmond because our mobility within the 610 Loop would be greatly diminished instead of increased. Rail should be to the outer lying areas to keep cars from coming into the city of Houston and where adequate parking to board a train could be provided. |

I have ridden the Metro Rail on Main a total of one time. It took forever. It was slower than taking a car. I would hate to see Richmond Street torn up as it will cost a lot of money and take a long time. If the powers that be feel that Richmond needs more public transportation another bus could be added and stops could be reduced to speed bus times. How about using one of those accordian buses if the ones are full now. Rail on Richmond is a terrible idea! |

"Although I think the idea of faster public transport is neat, I love driving and I think the light rail makes it more dangerous to make left turns and you have to watch out for the ""wham-Bam Trams""They should elevate it if they have to do this..so that way, no drivers will have to concern themselves with faulty trains.look at the numerous deaths from the first rail hitting cars!!!" |

My review of ballot wording and Metro's present stance on putting the Westpark line down Richmond shows the dishonesty of their position. Their plan is rewarding their real estate development cronies. Do I sense conflicts of interest on the unelected Metro Board? |

Richmond is not a destination, it’s a thriving neighborhood. For most every business, large or small that dwells in this neighborhood, you’ll find a residential home or apartment backing right up to that business. In this neighborhood, we have made peace with progress. Each of us has different reasons why we have chosen to thrive in this urban environment and we call it home, not a destination. Please don’t package us as a scenic route through which rail will travel. We’re a neighborhood that wants to stay a neighborhood.

Dear Daphne: Here are my points: 1. Richmond is a thoroughfare that WORKS. Lots of cars but they move. Why would any traffic improvement take away something that is functioning well. The idea is to add OTHER thoroughfares, not subtract. 2. for those people living up and down Richmond our lives, qualities of life are tied to the vendors and accessibility of our homes. Surely the Metro people don't think we are jumping on and off the train to get our groceries, do our errands etc. 3. traffic will be disastrous. Crossing Richmond with a train coming every few minutes will mean that all accessibility will be reduced. Can you imagine Kirby blocked all the time. Traffic there is already pretty heavy most of the day. 4. we have a railroad crossing our main arteries in this area-the freight trains crossing Richmond, Westheimer and San Felipe snarl traffic and nothing has been done about this. An existing problem has never been addressed. Now they want to completely ruin traffic for all of the Richmond traffic inside the Loop? I don't get it. 5. Noise, unwanted people standing around and under the Metro is inevitable. This will REDUCE security for us all and creat endless noise 24/7. 6. Pollution is going to go up. No more walking for those who do their exercise around the area and children on foot/bicycle. 7. It is my feeling that Richmond Av. inside the Loop is misunderstood by both the developers and the Metro. While this is a viable and busy street, it also feeds many NEIGHBORHOODS. People LIVE there and not just in a highrise like myself. 8. Trees are slowly maturing on the medians. They are welcome; they beautify and gentrify the area so that residences and businesses alike blend together. 9. Lots of us voted for the rail on Westpark, not that we needed it but for those out of the area that needed to get downtown. What a mistake. We have now potentially destroyed our own lives for this. I have travelled extensively. People have to understand that TRAINS are not busses and cars. They are NOT DOOR-To-DOOR modes of transport. One has to walk, go down steps in most cities in all types of weather to access a train. There is nothing discrete about trains. Why not have walkways over the highway???This would be 21st Century. People in this town have to either learn to walk, no matter what the weather or get into busses if they do not want to use their cars.
Thanks, Daphne. I shall try to come this afternoon. Suzanne Silvers 14 Greenway Plaza |

Richmond Avenue is a beautiful tree lined Boulevard. Much like in Europe. We cannot afford this construction to take place on this Avenue. It'll ruin the scenery and the grandeur.
We have national and international clients who visit our gallery, and they comment on how beatiful our street and surrounding area is. Let's not forget that this is the image we have for Houston.
Furthermore, let's not forget how bad it gets when it rains. Just imagine replacing our beautiful trees with concrete and steel.
....NO RAIL ON RICHMOND AVENUE.... |

I have worked on the Metro Rail in downtown Houston and feel that the rail on Richmond would be a large mistake. Considering the density of population between Kirby and Weslayan, and the few streets which are usuable in the area at present would cause a severe problem. I am not able to use the rail for work purposes and it would severely hamper my ability to do my job as well as decrease my property value. |

I have been at 920 Richmond ave.as the owner of Montrose Shell since 1982 and the last thing I want another disruption of this huge magnitude for a rail system. First and foremost people have voted for another location. Secondly you are going to ruin the livelihood of many families and thirdly you will destroy several trees and replace it with a a rail system with a very low ridership. The city needs a rail system that will connect the suburbs and the airport with the downtown, galeria area etc.Not a desruption on a street with so many businesses and a traffic flow that moves well most of the time.Common sense should prevail and not paranoia that will benefit very few. |

I live on Yoakum Blvd. between Richmond and the Fwy. My neighbors and I are against the rail for many reasons. Being trapped on our block and the difficulty of making a left turn are 2 of them. My son moved back from Japan, this summer and used the rail at Richmond and Main while liviing with us. He said it is a joke...no one was on it and they never took his ticket...he quit buying one. It is a train for no one going nowhere. We are adamantly opposed. Thanks, D.Gibbs |

There is absolutly no reason to ruin Richmond Ave by running rail down the middle of the street. Out of the 100 or so people I have discussd this with, only 5 or6 have been for rail. I feel the politicians better take note and respect the wishes of the majority, and not let mayor White and an appointed board cram this rail down everyones throat. |

First:
Why did you ignore the previous vote of the tax payers and residents? You over rode our vote "against rail on Richmond". Why did you hold the mockery of a vote if you had no intention of honoring the results? This is an example of governmental, bureaucratic, hypocrisy. Rail on Richmond without representation!
The bus lines serve this route effectively now and rider ship is low on the buses most of the time. Cost relative to rider ship on rail would not provide effective ROI and therefore waste tax payers’ money.
If you were to build a rail line, West park is much more wide open and will allow minimal disruption to businesses, traffic and residences. It is also close enough to access Richmond with a bus transfer if necessary.

Houston is expected to continue to grow in population. Those who do not understand the need for effective public transportation don't seem to understand that you cannot endlessly keep making wider streets to accomidiate ever more cars. Most major (wealthy) metropolitan cities in the world (except LA) has already addressed this problem. We are 20- 30 years behind. The alternative is more traffic congestion and pollution. |
